The Peer Group

The Peer Group This was the band I played in, from autumn 1996 till the end of 1998 while living in Freiburg. We split up when I moved to the coast.

Uli (git.), Christian (b.), Tobias (dr.), Frank (git.) and I (git., dr. + voc.) tried to get along with a couple of self-made songs. Our sound was a bit like Die Kammer, but more rock. Although I  felt a little tendency during the last months of our humble existence that we were getting softer... Had I started getting old? Still, my girlfriend thought we had too many electric guitars! Well, what a compliment!!

Here are two of our recordings (MP3, 128 KB/s):

  1. Was ich bin (2,5 MB)
  2. I will forget (7,5 MB)

Well, Tobias left the band in autumn 1998. Lutz started playing drums and Frank joined the band with his electric guitar. Two or three new songs, but no gig. We split without arguments when Lutz moved to Aurich on German's North Sea shore.

September 25, 1998

Since two months we've got a new rehearsal room - way down under the Atlantik cafe! It's really cool. Cheap, clean and not too cold! Tobias has left us in the meantime. Lutz has started playing the drums and we're looking for a new guitar player. Drop me a line if you're interested!

May 31, 1998

Well, end of last year we got thrown out of our rehearsal room. Only to be offered it two months later for a higher rent!! You don't believe it... Now we're jamming at Christian's and Uli's place, but things are not looking good to get a new room...

October 8, 1997

Yes, we did it!! Our first gig and nothing was thrown at us!! On September 24, 1997, we played at the bar of the Engelsberger students' home. The set was:

  • Manchmal
  • Doomed
  • Long, long moment
  • Was ich bin
  • Waende
  • I will forget
  • She said
  • Was ich bin (reprise)

(total time: 45')

Although mostly friends did listen with care, I dare say, we were not too bad. One of the best things was that Hennig had turned up for the show and even missed his last train, because he didn't want to miss the show!! But then, the sound was terrible. The room reverberated and you couldn't hear the voice. But it was good to perform our stuff live. My girlfriend taped the show and the result is ok. After us "Silver Rocket" played.

September 23, 1997

It seems like tomorrow's THE day!! We're going to have our first gig at Uli's party, celebrating the end of his apprenticeship!! Only problem: I don't know about the venue! But we should find out today's evening!

August 31, 1997

Well, we haven't had a rehearsal with the four of us for quite a while, but we're striving to play at Uli's party to celebrate his exams end of the month. Keep your fingers cross for a successful next month!!

August 17, 1997

Little wonder a new born baby means a lot of work! So during the last weeks there wasn't much sight of Tobias. Still, we have three new songs, one instrumental by Christian, one by Uli, who's BACK!!!!!!!!, and one by me, called "I will forget you (on the day that I die)". I'm going to Helsinki for a week so it'll take a while till you can see the lyrics published here, but I'll do my best.

July 24, 1997

Hey, congratulations Tobias! And may everybody give Rebecca a warm welcome on earth! And it seems like Uli's coming back next week! Alas! Now we're gonna ROCK!!!

July 17, 1997

We're trying to get on with the three of us, i.e. Uli for the time being. We have now roughly 6 songs. Tobias seems to be very busy with his family. I hope he will join us again regularly really soon!

July 1, 1997

Today Uli told Christian and me that he won't have the time and nerve to play with The Peer Group until September. What a pity, cause we're really getting better. And in September we'd like to have our first gig at the Atlantik café, Freiburg... No news about the future of our rehearsal room.

June 14, 1997

At least three bands have been thrown out of the old freight-train station which is hosts our rehearsal room. They used to play one floor beneath us. Hope we're not next... We wrote a new song called "She said".
